More UI advancements: time charts, new message form, new milestone page

Hi there,

In my previous post I talked about some of the improvements that made it into Apollo early last week. There is more! We worked on some elements of the interface based on your feedback. Here we go:

Time charts in time reports

When you see a time report (in the Projects dashboard), you can see what people are working on. When you click on a person's name, you now also see a pie chart that shows you which projects they have been working on.

New features: mark as unread, auto-subscribe, admin unsubscribe, comment notifications for milestones

Hi there,

Apollo is under very active development. Looking at our changelog, you can see that we are constantly adding new features, updating existing ones and fixing small problems. Reading the changelog is definitely boring -- plus, you don't get to see screenshots and pick the best of the best! So, here we go. Here are some of the new features that made it into Apollo yesterday:

Mark as unread

We all do it: we all want to virtually go back in time, and mark a message as unread so that we can answer it later.

Yet again a new Apollo: redesigned overview and Capsule import

Hi there,

Many of our users today noticed that we have deployed a new version of Apollo. Sometimes, new versions are rolled out without our users even noticing. This time it's different: we have released some major improvements. First of all, Apollo now has a new overview:

We listened very carefully to our users, while shaping the overview. The old overview had several shortcoming, and we believe we addressed most of them here.

Time reports across all projects, grouped by user

In Apollo, you can finally see your time reports across multiple projects (instead of running a report for each project).

I am sure this is great news for all those users who use Apollo while working on multiple projects, and want to keep track of time spent across all of them. Some of our users have over 250 projects active (!).

To see global time reports, just click on the "time" tab in the Project section of Apollo:

Project templates with Apollo

Project templates was one of the most requested features in Apollo (up there with iCal support and reply-by-email). Well, I am very proud to announce that Apollo now has project templates. I was having a discussion with Andrea a few weeks ago, about project templates. I said something along the lines of "Well, it's pretty straightforward right? I mean, a template is just like a normal project, yes?" Andrea answered instantaneously: "What about task's deadlines that need to be different? And the activity log that needs to be generated? And the Files section that doesn't apply? And the --". I interrupted him: he was right. Project templates were tricky at best. Well, ladies and gentlemen: here they are, project templates in Apollo! Click on Projects on the left, and then on the Templates submenu:

This is who we are, and this is why we reach out to people

This entry is longer than expected. Feel free to read it if you want some insider's information about Apollo, the people behind it, and what goes on behind the scenes.

The short story:

  • We are here to make great software. Really great software
  • We are not here to sell out and make millions.
  • Apollo works thanks to Apollo's mastermind, Andrea.
  • We are pushing Apollo on our own (competitors, read this)

To know the long story, read on!

Task list templates in Apollo!

Hi there,

We released Apollo a couple of days ago... and we are already busy releasing new important features!

One of them is task list templates, which are now available in Apollo. This is great news for all those users with set processes in place, and who have a set of tasks they complete in every project.

To create a task list template simply go open up your project: in the dashboard, you will see the "Templates" menu, which allows you to create task list templates you can reuse across your projects.

For example, if you are planning on starting a house building business, you might end up with a template like this:

Yes, we are finally releasing plans!

Hello friends,

Our journey with Apollo is about to have a major breakthrough; we are excited about this, and would love to share this with you, our users. So, here is the scoop:

We are about to release plans. This means that Apollo is about to become a paid service!

There are several reasons for this -- and they aren't exactly what you would expect. The main reason is that Apollo is now a mature product. When we launched Apollo in July 2010, people asked us: "Is it safe to use? If I put my task list in there, is it going to be there tomorrow?".

Our first newsletter went out: the Murphy's chronicles

Yesterday, we sent our first newsletter. It was a pretty important moment too! Thousands of people were going to receive it, and we really did our best to get it 100% right.

If I wanted to say that "100%" confidently, I would also need to make several announcement. So, here we go.

The first one is that we invented the time machine! Yes, that's right: when we wrote that we released Apollo initially in July 2011, we obviously meant it -- it wasn't a typo.
